Frequently Asked Questions
What is a microschool?
A microschool is a small learning community (usually 8-12 kids) focused on personalized learning and helping each student explore their interests as they develop real-world skills.
Are you a certified teacher?
Yes—I taught in Frisco ISD for 7 years. I was feeling the call to a more personalized approach that partners with families. I am certified to teach Kindergarten-6th grade.
How will I know that my child is learning what they need to learn?
We believe learning should be transparent and collaborative. Student progress is tracked through a standards-aligned curriculum, regular assessments, and hands-on projects. Using the Prenda platform, you’ll have access to real-time updates on your child’s academic growth and goals. In addition, we provide progress reports and host three parent conferences throughout the year to review learning milestones together. You won’t be left guessing—we’re here to partner with you every step of the way..
How is your microschool different from a traditional school?
At Lighthouse Christian Academy, we take a highly personalized approach to learning. Instead of following a rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum, we meet students where they are—academically, emotionally, and spiritually—and allow them to explore their interests and curiosities. This leads to deeper understanding, greater engagement, and a genuine love of learning.
We focus on helping students take ownership of their education. Through meaningful choices and self-directed learning opportunities, kids develop confidence, independence, and a strong sense of purpose. Rather than being motivated by fear of failure, our students are inspired to grow and pursue their unique goals with passion and integrity.
How do you teach multiple ages and grade levels at once?
Our multi-age learning environment is actually one of our greatest strengths. We group students based on skill level and readiness—not just age—allowing for more flexibility and deeper learning. With the help of the Prenda platform, students work independently or in small groups on personalized academic paths, while I guide, support, and challenge them based on their needs. This model encourages peer collaboration, mentorship, and a family-like community where every child can thrive.
Is this like homeschooling?
In some ways, yes—but we’re here to take the pressure off parents. Think of us as a hybrid between private school and homeschool. We provide structure, community, and a personalized academic plan, while still giving families the flexibility and involvement that many love about homeschooling. Parents don’t have to plan lessons or teach—our team handles all instruction, tracking, and support.
What curriculum do you use?
We partner with Prenda, a learner-centered platform that blends core academic skills with creativity, critical thinking, and life skills. Students move through standards-aligned content at their own pace, while also participating in hands-on projects, collaborative challenges, and guided exploration. We also incorporate faith-based lessons, literature, and character-building throughout the week.
How is Lighthouse Christian Academy different from other private schools, classical programs, or homeschool co-ops in the area?
Lighthouse Christian Academy offers a unique blend of structure, flexibility, and personalized learning that sets us apart. We are not a classical school, so we don’t follow a traditional, lecture-heavy model or require students to memorize large amounts of content in a set sequence. And unlike a homeschool co-op, we don’t expect parents to teach or plan curriculum—we take care of all academics and instruction in a full-day, drop-off model.
Our program blends the best parts of private schooling and homeschooling with the added benefit of small class sizes, faith-based community, and a learner-centered approach. Students are free to move at their own pace while receiving meaningful guidance, support, and encouragement each step of the way.
